The Guardian Part 6: The state of the worldwide Bahá’í Administrative Order (1922-1924)

In this part of The Guardian chronology, we study the first two years of his Guardianship, and how he begins carefully and methodically building the Bahá’í Administrative Order. We also travel with him to his mountain retreats and beloved Mr. Hauser in Switzerland three times in 1922, 1923, and 1924. The Shrines of the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh are illuminated for the first time, and May and Mary Maxwell—aged 12—arrive on their first pilgrimage. We also acquire a broad understanding of the role of the Greatest Holy Leaf in these the first years of Shoghi Effendi’s Guardianship, with her innumerable letters in support of the Guardian to communities the entire world over. Shoghi Effendi inaugurates the Bahá’í Fund, begins publishing the Bahá’í World, and begins making plans to extend the properties at the World Centre. Finally, in 1924, Dr. John E. Esslemont becomes Shoghi Effendi’s first truly stellar secretary.
