He is a retired professor of African and African American history, who taught most recently at UCLA and West Los Angeles College. He has published a number of books and papers on the history of the Baha’i Faith in Africa and in Iran. He is co-owner of Kalimat Press www.kalimat.com, a small, independent Baha’i publishing company. He is also a poet who, with the late Amin Banani, translated the poems of Tahirih and has published five other books of poetry in English and in English translation.
